Parent University Fair Helps Families to Register For Semester Classes

Reno, NV (Jan. 26, 2012) -The Washoe County School District's Parent University will be holding an information and registration fair this Friday, Jan. 27. The event will be held at Sparks Middle School at 2275 18th Street in Sparks from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The fair is an opportunity for all parents and community members to learn more about what Parent University has to offer, how to access the resources found through the Parent University, as well as register for upcoming classes. This is a family event and is free to the public, and childcare and interpretation in Spanish will be available. The classes offered cover supporting learning and navigating the system, leadership & advocacy, parenting, family health & wellness, and parent's personal growth & development.
The Washoe County School District Parent University is made possible through partnerships with more than 22 community-based organizations and is guided by the District's Parent Involvement Council. Tracy Sherwood, Parent Involvement Committee Chair, said "The Parent Involvement Council has worked in partnership with the District to ensure that the classes offered through Parent University are accessible to every parent. The fair will help families to navigate this new program and find out more about upcoming classes. I'm excited as a parent to attend new classes this semester as well."
"The fair is an exciting opportunity for us to outreach to parents and help them sign up for the many classes we still have available for this year," said Maria Fernandez, Parent University Coordinator with Washoe County School District's Department of Family-School Partnerships.
All parents and community members are invited to attend the Parent University Fair. This is a family event, and all members of the family are welcome to attend. The Parent University is part of WCSD's strategic plan, Envision WCSD 2015 - Investing In Our Future.
