June 30: Final Budget Set by Board of Trustees
.JPG) | The Washoe County School District Board of Trustees on June 30 approved an amended final budget for fiscal year 2011-2012, which includes $50.6 million in budget reductions and cost-savings measures. The final budget also reflects potential concessions with employee associations that the District is seeking through ongoing negotiations. |
State of Education Address
During his first State of Education Address in January 2011, Superintendent Dr. Heath Morrison provided an update on the progress of the Washoe County School District’s strategic plan, Envision WCSD 2015 – Investing In Our Future. He also shared some of the achievements of WCSD schools under the reform plan and discussed the areas in which WCSD still needs to improve to ensure all children are truly college and highly-skilled career ready. In addition, Dr. Morrison spoke about the budget process, how the District will deal with the challenges that may lie ahead and the value of a high-quality education system to our economy.
Initial Budget Recommendations News Conference
Facing some of the most severe budget cuts in Washoe County School District history, Superintendent Dr. Heath Morrison announced his preliminary recommendations to begin addressing the estimated $75 million budget gap at a news conference on Monday, April 25, 2011. The news conference was followed by a series of five townhall meetings with the community.

Budget Update at June 3 News Briefing
With a budget deal in place in Carson City between the Governor and state legislators, Superintendent Dr. Heath Morrison provided an update about the District’s budget situation at a news briefing on Friday, June 3, 2011. He gave preliminary estimates about the potential shortfall facing the District and explained the next steps in the WCSD budget process.
